TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry will implement the mixture of 5% bioethanol in gasoline, also known as E5. The Director General of New Renewable Energy and Conservation Yudo Dwinanda Priadi said that the fuel will be implemented in a limited nature this year in Jakarta and Surabaya.
“The result of this limited implementation will be reviewed to prepare the E5 implementation on a bigger scale,” said Yudho in a press release on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
Yudho explained that the E5 implementation in Surabaya will include Oktan 95 gasoline segmentation. The preparation of facility and infrastructure including 10 gas stations in Surabaya and 5 gas stations in Jakarta has been finalized by Pertamina Patra Niaga.
The substitution from fuel oil to biofuel is the government’s measure to decrease the trade balance deficit caused by the huge fuel oil import value.
Furthermore, the program is also intended to increase the value of new renewable energy mixture which targets to increase the mixture to 23% by 2025.
